Hi, I’m Maria
Hi, my name is Maria, nice to meet you!
I am a Venezuelan living in Dallas, mother of 4 wonderful children, married to my best friend, Scott.
Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of getting married, having lots of children and owning a house to make it a home.
As a young girl, I used to grab the newspaper on Sundays and read the for-sale home ads. I would enjoy the way they described their houses and start to put together spaces on my head. Then I would grab paper, a pen and a ruler and would start drawing the home of my dreams.
When I got married, my husband already owned a furnished house, so we stayed there for many years until we could afford a bigger house for our growing family and all new furniture. Our previous home had furniture from his previous two marriages and it wasn’t my style. No matter what I did, it wouldn’t feel like home. I spent all those years dreaming of our new house, pinning on Pinterest all the furniture and decor items I liked.
Seven years went by and in the Summer of 2017 we were finally ready financially to make the move, so we did. I started documenting my journey on Instagram because I no longer felt like keeping my dreams to myself. I was surprised to see such a great reaction from friends and new followers that liked my style, which encouraged me to keep sharing. I appreciate you all so much!
I’ve created this blog to share more of our journey to make our house a home, dream home and to share other things I am passionate about. I like sharing about homemaking, family finances, family travel and home-based business.
Also as a young girl, I dreamt of having a great career and traveling the world. I had spent the last 8 years growing my career in Marketing, until January 2018 when I decided that was not really what was fulfilling to me. I quit my full-time office job to spend more time with my children and started managing our finances on a daily basis. Now that we were a single-income household, I promised my husband we would not have debt nor live paycheck to paycheck.
Since I am the one writing the blog posts, I wanted to introduce myself first, but enough about me! Let me tell you about my wonderful family!
My husband, Scott Baradell is so handsome! He is also very funny, calm and so very kind. He is the rock upon which I stand. He owns a B2B technology PR and marketing agency called Idea Grove. When I met him, Idea Grove was him, working from our home office on his PJs. Now he has over 25 people working for him and over 20 clients. I am so proud of him and look up to him. I am his 3rd wife. He divorced his first wife, remarried to a wonderful woman called Cathy, had 2 beautiful children called Juliet and Benjamin, but unfortunately, she passed away from a brain tumor. A few months after, he needed help with the children, so hired an Au Pair: me! I quickly fell in love with the kids and with my host dad. It is like a match made in heaven. We got married in January 2010.
Now let me tell you about our awesome kids.
Juliet is 11 years old and loves dancing. She has been dancing with the same dance studio since she was 3 years old. She is very good at it! She started going to dance competitions a couple of years ago and wants to be a dance teacher and own a dance studio when she grows up. Juliet is in 5th grade, loves the color blue and believes in mermaids. She has a cute sense of humor and is a very caring person and a wonderful daughter and friend.
Benjamin is 9 years old. He is in 4th grade, loves the colors purple and orange and is very good with math. Actually, he is really good with all numbers, especially sports stats. Benjamin loves sports, mostly basketball (Dallas Mavericks and Virginia Cavaliers), baseball (Texas Rangers) and football (Miami Dolphins). He likes the teams his daddy likes. Benjamin is a very picky eater, has eczema and allergies, but he doesn’t let any of that bother him. He is such a great brother and son.
I adopted Juliet and Benjamin and have been their mom since Juliet was 2.5 years old and Benjamin was 14 months old. I love them with all my heart, they make me so happy and I am grateful for them being in my life.
In 2013 I became pregnant and we added one more little person to our lives: Jack. He is now 5 years old and he is so sweet, calm, kind and funny. He is also a little dramatic, but that’s part of what makes him funny, so we are ok with that! Jack loves the color red, superheroes, star wars, classic rock & roll and food! He has the cutest dimples!
In October 2014, only 13 months after Jack was born, we added one more member to our family: Christopher, who is 4 years old now. He came into the world only 25 minutes after I arrived at the hospital! He was in a rush and couldn’t wait for me to have the epidural! It was so painful and stressful, but when the nurse put him on my chest I felt a peace I had never feel before. I knew we were going to be great friends. The rest of his life has been just as wild. He is our feral child who keeps us on our toes. Christopher LOVES girls of all ages. He is mesmerized by them, but there is one girl that has been his best friend for 2 years now. He talks about her first thing in the morning and last thing at night. He plays with her at school all day and she seems to like him, too.
