Alkalinize your body and boost your immune system

Ever since I became a vegetarian last summer I have been doing a lot of research on ways to prevent disease and better improve my health and the health of my family through the food and drinks we consume. All the research points to nutrition as the key to a longer, healthier life. It’s not rocket science: Better input = Better Output.

During my research, I have become fascinated with the importance of water to better nurture our bodies. Look at the image below. We have to keep all of our organs and tissues well hydrated for our body to perform at its best capacity.

We know water is important. We all have been hearing “drink 8 cups or more of water a day” for as long as we can remember, but what type of water would be best for us to drink? Alkaline water!

An alkaline diet is mainly composed of raw fresh fruits, vegetables, roots and tubers, nuts, and legumes and alkaline water, which would bring us closer to a perfect internal pH level of 7,365 with pH levels running from 0 (acidic) to 14 (alkaline). Thanks to the typical American diet based on dairy, sugars, meat, alcohol, saturated fats, and caffeine, millions of us have turned our bodies into hostile, acidic environments.

The pH level of our blood affects all the living cells in our bodies and the aftermath of over-acidification can wreck our health over time. A chronically over-acidic pH creates a negative environment and will affect all functions in the body.  A headache could be a symptom of our body being too acidic. If we don’t reverse to a more alkaline pH in time, serious illnesses such as cancer could thrive.

By drinking water with a pH of up to 9.5, we help our body compensate acidic intake and find balance. That is why my family and I use our Alkaline Pitcher on a daily basis which contains magnesium ions that make water more alkaline. We actually keep two of these in the fridge. To me, it is easier and quicker to fill the containers up in the morning and get water from them instead of getting water from the dispenser.

Benefits of drinking alkaline water include:

  1. Better hydration: Alkaline water has smaller molecular content making it easier for the body to absorb.
  2. Boost the immune system: Alkaline water neutralizes free radicals and helps cleanse our bodies of toxins.
  3. Fights disease: Cancer and other illnesses cannot thrive in an environment with a neutral PH level.

Sometimes I like to leave our water pitcher out on top of the kitchen counter. I’ve found we all drink more water that way when we see it right in front of us. Since we have one of those built-in looking fridges, the ice maker is inside the freezer drawer, so we usually get our cups out, scoop ice out of the container in the drawer, and serve the water from the pitcher. During busy times, I bring one of our pitchers with me to the office to make sure I stay hydrated all day.

I love the pitcher’s smart lid. Whenever I place a new filter I push the button to start a new cycle. When you see the yellow light blink, it means the date to change the filter is coming, so you can order new filters online. A month after putting a new filter in or after alkalinizing over 40 gallons of water, a red light will blink letting me know it is time to replace the filter.

I particularly do not like to feel any taste on my water, which is why I usually do not drink water from store-bought water bottles or even the fridge dispenser. I LOVE how the alkaline water from my pitcher doesn’t have any taste. It just tastes like the most delicious, fresh water you will ever have!
