Family Vacation – Where To Eat In Destin, Florida

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS AND/OR SPONSORED CONTENT. READ MY FULL DISCLOSURE

“I don’t like to eat out”, said nobody ever. Let’s be real, if we could afford it, we would eat out all the time just to avoid washing dishes. But nope, we cannot afford it, so we pick very carefully where and when to eat when we go out on vacation, like when we visited Destin, Florida.

First of all, if we are staying in condos like we usually do in Destin, we hit the local supermarket to buy breakfast and snacks for the whole week. We also buy easy dinner solutions like pasta and some days we might just order pizza.

We usually have lunch at local restaurants since it’s a good way to get a break from the sun, but sometimes we go out for dinner. It really depends on the activities we have planned for the day. Speaking of plans, when it comes down to the beach, I rather have no plans at all. I want to enjoy the sand, the sun, the salty water as much as possible and to relax with the family. We might find a couple of fun activities for the kids, but that’s about it unless it is rainy. Then we do try to find as many indoor activities as possible.

You are here because you want to know where to eat in Destin, Florida, so I better get to it already. Here are my recommendations:

1. Harbor Docks

Harbor Docks has been a Destin seafood restaurant tradition since 1979. It offers fresh food, and more importantly, fresh, local seafood that comes from their own wholesale market. Once seafood is harvested from the Gulf, it is unloaded at their docks, cleaned in their market, and delivered upstairs to the restaurant. I heard that this wholesale market supplies fresh, never frozen, seafood to other restaurants in Destin and surrounding areas!

Their sushi menu is amazing and you can really taste the difference and know their fish is very fresh. Same for the rest of their menu. One of the rolls I ate was called Eagle that has yellowtail and smoked salmon. Some of my readers know that I have since turned vegetarian, but I am telling you, that was great fish! Scott had the catch of the day and Juliet had a California roll. Benjamin and the babies had chicken fingers and fries.

Proof that we have gone there more than once? I love Christopher’s face in this picture.

Their view from their restaurant is beautiful and their service is also exceptional, so I highly recommend this place.

2. Pompano Joes

Pompano Joes is a short walk from the condos we stayed at, so we would go to this restaurant at least two times during our week in Destin. This restaurant is proud to offer fresh seafood from the Gulf that is delivered daily. I love their family-friendly vibe, their amazing view of the beach, and I have to say, their cocktails!

3. Brotulas

Located close by Destin’s bustling Harborwalk Village is this restaurant with a funny name. The name Brotula’s is derived from the Bearded Brotula or Cusk Eel that is caught right there in their local waters at depths of 350 feet. This amazing tasting fish is one of the best-kept secrets among the local fishing community.

What we loved most about this restaurant was the way they presented their super fresh fish. Each plate came with a little sign with a QR code for you to track where your fish came from (the vessel, the captain, and the location). The food tasted amazing! I can’t wait to go back!

They are famous for their steamed snow crab. We loved it!

Sorry for the dark picture, guys!

This restaurant also has a great view and the service was as amazing as the food!

4. Destin Ice

Now, this one is not a restaurant, but had to make my list. Destin Ice is seafood market where you can pick up everything you need for a fresh and delicious meal. They steam your fish to order with your chosen seasoning and I am telling you right now that those were the best shrimps I have eaten in my entire life.

Great post! Very useful! Destin is still on our list and we’ll definitely need these tips when we’ll go. Have you ever stayed in a hotel, or would you say condo is the way to go with family/kids? What’s the best time to go?
